A Statistical Study on Congenital Auricular Fistula in Koreans

Abstract
1. The incidence of the congenital auricular fistula in 2150 Koreans was 4.74%.
2. The incidence of the fistulas occurred unilaterally on the right side was, 1.95% and that of left 1.44%. The difference of these two figures is not significant to be of consideration. The incidence that of bilateral comprised about 1.35%.
3. Data were varying, depending on the locations of the fistulas. 36.99% of the incidence was prsented on the anterior portion of the crus helicis and the upper portion of the tragus, 11.64% on the crus helicis, cymba conchae and fossa triangularis, cymba conchae and cavitas conchae and 4.79% on the lobulus auriculae, showing the highest incidence of 46. 58% on the helix.
4. Concerning to the length of the fistulas, the highest incidence of 84.92% failed on the group having the fistulas less than 5mm in length.
5. In the majority of fistulas occurred bilaterally, each couple showed symmetrical positions and equal length.
6. A close relationship was observed between the location of the fistula and the clinical manifestations, the fistulas occurred on the anterior portion of the crus helicis and the antero-superior portion of the tragus being most apt to be of clinical consideration.
